Catoctin Mountain Cyclery offers evening classes taught by Scott who has been a teacher for 25+ years, a youth mountain bike coach for 6 years, and a biker all his life. Get Ready to Ride (1 hour, $20 per participant)

Not sure what tire pressure you should run, how your derailleur works, or what tools you should bring?

This class is designed to get you familiar with the various components of a bike such as tires (tubes and tubeless), brakes (hydraulic and cable), drivetrain and suspension. It also covers how to set up your suspension, seat, and brake and shifter levers. Finally, the class will discuss what you should bring with you on a ride to cover simple mechanical issues.

Bike Maintenance Basics (1 hour, $20 per participant)

So now you have a nice bike and you want to keep it that way.

This class is designed to teach you routine maintenance and simple trail fixes so you can keep your bike running better and for longer. Topics include pre- and post-ride maintenance along with how to deal with common problems such as changing a tire, adjusting a derailleur, and adjusting a rubbing brake.

Basic Trail Riding  (1.5 hours, $80 per participant)

Biking may seem simple, but when you get out on the trail it can be another story. Hills, descents, rocks, roots, berms, and drops all can show up on your ride and throw you off. Starting at the Shop, the lesson will go over proper bike set up checking body position on the bike and tire and suspension pressures. Riding out from the Shop into Little Bennett Regional Park, this class will teach you the fundamentals of mountain biking such as body positioning, braking, vision, and pedal cadence on flowy single track trails.
